CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Roy Greenhilt
Age: Mid-20s. Canon isn't specific on the age but he's been out of school for some time.
Canon: The Order of the Stick
Canon Point: Strip 863
Species: Human
Gender: Male

Background: Wiki!
Appearance: This is Roy, albeit sans crown. I suggest this fanart for those who want a baseline image for their character to picture.

Personality: Roy is a defiance of the stereotypical 'dumb fighter' trope. Though he IS a good fighter, he's intelligent and capable of far more than just beating things down. Formally educated, he's made a point of pursuing a wide range of knowledge (such as having studied architecture and engineering, of all things!)

Raised on stories of his grandfather's adventures and skill with the weapon his family is named after, Roy dreamed from a young age of becoming a fighter -- to the point that it drove a serious wedge between him and his father, who as a wizard disdained the martial arts as vastly inferior to spellcraft.

For a long time, Roy was driven by the need to show up his father's assertions of magical superiority, and prove that a 'fighter-jock' could defeat a threat that his father had failed to. His sole motivation in founding the Order of the Stick was to defeat the lich Xykon specifically because his father said he couldn't. Time, experience, and the help of his party -- as well as his own death at Xykon's hands -- mean Roy has grown beyond that since the start of his journey, and now seeks to defeat the world-threatening nemesis BECAUSE it is a world-threatening nemesis and not to spit in his dad's face.

Though Lawful Good in D&D terms, Roy inevitably puts being Good above being Lawful. He's gone so far as to work behind the backs of an entire order of paladins for the greater good, and routinely associates with chaotic members of his own party. But he continues to try, as is pointed out by no less than a celestial in charge of adjudicating such things, and strives to live up to the ideals of his chosen alignment, which is the important thing. (Of course, in terms of Evil, Roy doesn't even merit the slightest blip on the scale.)

Although initially Roy was inches from abandoning his entire adventuring group and going home simply because of their sheer dysfunction, his experiences with them -- as well as his own mistakes, recognized in hindsight -- have taught him patience with them. Though he still maintains a realistic outlook on the flaws of those he adventures with, he is extremely loyal to them; he's basically the Team Dad.

On the downside, Roy tends to be a bit of a jackass. He's quick with a disparaging or snappy comment, or a downright tirade, when something has angered, offended, or just annoyed him. Even his friends -- especially his friends -- aren't immune to this. Compounding this is the fact that he can be irritated, annoyed, or just pained fairly easily, and can be sharp-tongued when it isn't justified. He also has an overtly Freudian connection to his family greatsword, and frequently assumes he knows much more about a situation than he actually does, to his detriment.

He also makes frequent references to D&D setting mechanics, and is perfectly aware of them.

Powers/Abilities: Roy is an extremely competent fighter -- around level 13, in D&D terms. He specializes in fighting with the greatsword, but is proficient with pretty much any normal weapon he can pick up. He is skilled tactician and battlefield leader.
Inventory: Roy will arrive with his armor and his sword -- the latter of which requires special note, as it is the Greenhilt family sword, a +5 starmetal greatsword which occasionally explodes with a green light which is particularly harmful to undead.

Type Affinity: 1. Strength. 2. Sound.
Wand: The Greenhilt family sword.

Other: Roy's world runs on the mechanics of D&D as surely and as literally as ours runs on the laws of physics. And he's aware of it. And will frequently reference it. He is also highly genre-savvy towards D&D tropes and fantasy rules, and will make references to them as well as snap judgments according to them.

SAMPLES
First Person: Roy, chatty and busy.

Third Person:

"Perfect," Roy said out loud, as he sat on his bed, looking over his sword to make sure it was in battle-ready condition. "Just perfect. Tarquin's an inch from gaining Girard's Gate, Xykon is up to who-knows-what, V's gone missing, and where am I? Stuck in the middle of a MAGIC SCHOOL wasting double-digits of fighter levels because I'm being forced to class into an arcane caster!"

He knew perfectly well he'd ended that statement shouting, but right now he really needed to let off some steam. Sighing, he rose, slung the sword over his back, and headed for the hall.

"I wouldn't mind so much if there were an effective way to escape the plot with the powers and resources available to me, but this has more railroads than a special-edition Monopoly board," he said as she shut the door behind him. "I can't even tell who the other PCs here are and who are just ludicrous extremes of characterization in the guise of quirky NPCs. Not that there's that much of a difference."

Sighing, he traipsed down the hall towards the library. As resentful of this enforced learning as he was, it simply wasn't in him to do poorly. Years spent as a serious student among fighter-jock frat brothers who regarded Intelligence as the obvious dump stat had left him all the more determined to prove himself. At best, he'd decided, he could consider himself some sort of martial adept class. Uncomfortably far away from core rules for his taste, but the closest analogy he could conceive of.

And truth be told, he knew deep down that he simply couldn't afford to turn away any knowledge or learning that could aid him in the fight against Xykon. The stakes were simply too high to let one fighter, no matter how dedicated to his class, keep his pride.

"Not that I'd mind so much if Dad weren't somewhere upstairs laughing his disembodied butt off at this situation," he growled.
